Start your Norwegian language exchange in Emmen!

Two people engaging in conversation.

What is a language exchange?

In a language exchange or language tandem, you meet up with a person whose native language you would like to learn. You can talk to each other for a while in one language and then in the other.

In order to learn a language, it is important to actually speak it. Language tandems are therefore the perfect complement to language schools and courses. Whether your goal is to become fluent in French, improve your pronunciation of Mandarin or immerse yourself in the intricacies of Spanish grammar, Sprachtandem.ch enables you to have a meaningful and personalised language exchange.

And how does a language tandem work?

The easiest way to explain language tandem is with an example: Lisa from Zurich will soon be travelling to France for a semester abroad. She has already attended a course at a language school to learn French, but lacks the opportunity to practise free conversation. Louise from Paris has recently accepted a job in Zurich. She wants to improve her German as quickly as possible so that she can participate better in life in Switzerland. The two find each other via Sprachtandem.ch. They first write a few messages to make sure that they both have the same idea about the meeting. Then they meet in a public place. First they speak German for half an hour, then they switch to French for the same amount of time.

The two not only learn the language of their respective language partners, but also learn something about their culture and gain insider knowledge from another country. The learning/practice method is a lot of fun and lets you get to know your counterpart in an uncomplicated and relaxed way. The special advantage of Sprachtandem is that the lessons are free because of the exchange principle.

Is Sprachtandem.ch free of charge?

On Sprachtandem.ch you can start your tandem search for free or let potential partners find you. With a premium account, you can increase your monthly limit and your profile will appear slightly higher in the search results.

I am a South-Sámi (indigenous) from from central Norway with a Swiss boyfriend for 7 years. I’ve been learning German on and off for about 2 years and it’s time for me to take a step further! My plan is to move to Switzerland to work after I’ve graduated from medical school next year. Since the scandinavian languages is very similar, I understand swedish and danish well, however, it is not my mother tongue. I will be happy to help you with norwegian if you help me with my german :)
